Remote Access
Salespeople on the road, employees
working from home and branch office personnel in need of access
to company databases, email and accounting applications require a
fast and secure gateway to the network or to their PC desktop.
There are a number of solutions available including PCAnywhere and
GoToMyPC but my favorite is Remote Desktop which is bundled with
Microsoft XP Professional.
This program is built on Windows
Terminal Services technology and can be used to provide one user
secure remote access to their desktop and all of the applications
and resources that are available when actually seated at the
computer. It can also be used to access a Terminal Server where
multiple, concurrent users are able to access personalized desktops
or specific applications simultaneously.
After a few settings are configured on
the host and client computers, users can click on a password
protected link to access their familiar desktop from any computer*
connected to the Internet. Firewalls, and routers will also
require configuration to allow and direct this Internet traffic
to the local network and the host computer. |
