PayPal Scam Today – Video
A client of ours was almost scammed out of thousands of dollars by an email spoofing PayPal.
How to Spot a PayPal Scam (Red Flags to Watch For)
Here are some common warning signs that you’re looking at a fraudulent PayPal message:
- The sender’s email domain doesn’t match PayPal’s official domains (e.g.
paypal.com) - The email uses urgent or threatening language (“Your account will be closed unless you act now”)
- It asks you to verify your password or give personal info via link
- The link shown differs from the actual link (hover doesn’t match)
- You see spelling or grammar errors (common in phishing)
- It includes vague greetings (“Dear user”) instead of your real name
- It references account changes you didn’t make
If you see two or more of these indicators, treat the message as suspicious until confirmed.
